All of this is explained in game and also evidenced by the fact that even your shadow spells like shadowbolt still have bits of green fel energy visual effects on them. To be honest, its just weird that humans weren't able to be hunters until cataclysm, considering humans are obviously able to use guns and bows, have been seen using ranged weapons in game prior to cataclysm, and there are a number of human ranger characters in the lore.Druids draw on the primal power of life and nature and while to power does seem to have a will, it seems less sentient than the spirits the shaman call on. So no I do not think druids can loose their power the same way shaman can. That being said there are ways to "loose" their powers. Life, as i said, has a will. Modgud, the wife of Thaussarian, might be a better example of a Dark Iron Dwarf priestess, especially considering she used Xal'atath originally.
